I am a definite book worm. My room resembles a library. I buy books for retail therapy while other girls shop for shoes. Life does get in the way of reading them all though, but at least it means I’ll never be stuck for something to read! I have a little secret though – it’s so much easier to pick up a trashy chick flick or sensational thriller, than it is to wade through a wordy piece of literature that requires full concentration. But, there are certain books that are must reads. I can’t call myself a book nerd if I’m not at least aspiring to read them! I’ve come up with a list of those books.
This is the Big’un Ladies and Gentleman. The Travel Bucket List. 98 must see places and must have experiences, scattered across the globe.
Travel makes my heart sing. I love seeing new places and exploring sites that I’ve read about in books, or learned about in school. I love experiencing the different cultures and foods and environments. I love the adventures! I also love being a slightly different version of myself while I travel – just a little bit calmer, a little bit more independent and adventurous, a little more fun.
I’m lucky enough to have already checked 47 things off this list. Over the last five or so years I’ve traveled through 31 different countries and loved it. But there’s so much more to see! And on top of this list, there are millions of moments in far away (or not so far away) places to experience that could never be planned or sought out, but just have to happen in their own special time. I hope to see a whole lot more of the world before my time is up, and this list is just a starting point. All I need is to a) get a job, or b) win the lottery (preferably b!), and I’ll be zipping all over the globe. I can’t wait!
I really want to live a full life. There are so many things that I want to experience and try. I refuse to use the acronym “FOMO” – but essentially that’s what I have. For those of you not familiar with teen lingo, “FOMO” means “Fear Of Missing Out”. It’s the equivalent of the notion that on your death bed you will only regret what you failed to do. I don’t want to look back on life and wish I’d done more! So I’ve made a few lists (I love a good list!) of things I want to do in my life; one general, one for travel, and one for books. I’m sure that more items will come up over time, but this is a good start. Hopefully, putting this up on my blog will help keep me accountable, and stop me from being complacent. I’ll be crossing things off as I go, and hopefully sharing my experiences with you!
It’s so easy to wake up every day, go through the minutiae of life, and go back to bed at night, without achieving anything of consequence. I don’t want that to be me! So, without further ado, here is my first bucket list…
