Good Morning 2014!

Bring it on 2014

Happy New Year Bloggers! I’m going to be a little crazy here – no 2013 Roundup, and no 2014 Resoutions!

To be honest, 2013 wasn’t a great year for me. I spent most of the year working on my health, and can’t say I made as much progress as I’d have liked. And, while I got my blog off the ground, I haven’t quite settled into a blogging routine yet. I also didn’t manage to find a job. So, 2013 was a bit of a write off, and a year that I’m not exactly dying to relive.

I won’t say that I’ve got high hopes for 2014, because that’s setting myself up for a fall, but I will say that I’m looking forward to a new year, and hopefully making some progress with my life.

I’m not setting any resolutions! I hate the pressure that they put on you. So, I’m going to have a few ‘ongoing improvements’ to work on instead.

* I want to keep working on my fitness; thanks to a few medication changes I put on a heap of weight in 2013 (most of which I’d just spent 2012 losing…), so I’m working my way back down to a more comfortable weight for me. I’m trying to find a balance – I don’t want to obsess over what I’m eating and how often I’m exercising. I used to have an eating disorder, and am being careful not to slip back into an unhealthy rhythm. Now, I try to get to the gym three times a week, but don’t beat myself up when that doesn’t happen. I also try to eat consistently healthy, but not deny myself treats – because that inevitably leads to a binge!

* My finances are top of mind at the moment. I’m a saver by nature, but not having a job means that I’m constantly broke. I’m hoping to get a part time job in the next month or two, to pair with my charity work, and help provide a more regular income. I’m also keen to break into freelance writing; I love to write, and used to be good at it, so if I could make a little money there, I’ll be a happy chappy. I’m excited to have savings again!

* I really want to continue to improve my blog. Ideally I’d like to be posting three times a week. I’m going to try sponsoring a few blogs, to see if it improves my traffic, and social media interactions. Hand in hand with this, I’m going to keep trying to sell my DIYs and cupcakes, both at markets and on Etsy. If I can cover my costs this year, then I’ll be ecstatic!

If I can get my health and finances in order, I think I’ll be well on my way to getting my life into some kind of order. With health comes happiness, and with happiness comes the confidence to renew my social life, which would be awesome. And with money will come the opportunity to travel, or save up for a place of my own, which I would love. Currently, I feel very far away from where I want to be, but I’m entering the New Year with a positive attitude, and will do what I can to stay on track this year!

Good luck to all of you and your resolutions for 2014. May we all have the kind of fabulous, adventure-filled year that we all dream of!

I totally understand the weight gain because of meds. It sucks. I didn’t know you used to have an ED! Me too! Here’s a link to my testimony, it includes gaining too much weight due to meds
Have a wonderful 2014! It’s been wonderful getting to know you this past year 🙂

Hi Abby! I read your testimonial – I’m so glad you were supported through treatment and gained a friend though it! You’ve inspired me to (maybe!) share my story one day. It’s been great getting to know you too; I love that we can keep in touch through our blogs. Happy New Year!

I am in the same boat! I have been unemployed for months and living in a new town with absolutely no connections…feeling very “whomp, whomp, whoooommmp” about the situation, but keep up your persistence…it’s what we have to do!

So, I can see your health seems to be a challenge, as it is for a lot of people. Have you ever signed up for a 5k? I had tried tons of diets and exercise commitments and blah, blah, blah but always gave up too early in the game. Until, I found running! It is the highest fat burning exercise. I lost the most weight ever by simply jogging. I didn’t even have to go on any kind of extreme diet to lose weight. I ate healthy meals and still had guilt free indulgences now and then, because my body can burn it off a lot faster now! and once you get over the beginning hump, most people find a love for it. Anyway, signing up for 5k event usually keeps you accountable to exercising (kind of the same concept with the book reviews you do), and not to mention, they are really fun! Usually, there are fun themes and celebrations after and you being so involved with charity work, it isn’t hard to find a 5k that sponsors some kind of fundraiser. Just a thought!

Also, you asked what the GRE is. It’s the standardize exam you must take to get into a graduate program. I would like to get a master’s within the next few years 🙂

We can be unemployed together and take comfort in our mutual search. I hope you find something soon!

I think I’d like to rake up running. I’ve always put it off because I’m very self-conscious about running outside with the way I look, and I’m not ‘allowed’ a treadmill while I’m still living at home with my parents… A 5K would be a good way to be kept accountable! Thanks for the encouragement!

Ohk, that clears up GRE – good luck preparing for it! Doing a Masters program would be great 🙂

I love the idea of a new year and a fresh start. To me the very air feels different. I hope 2014 brings you a new job and financial relief. Your blog is already adorable so I wouldn’t worry about that! Found you via Pink Heels Pink Truck:)) New follower.
